  • Big Is Beautiful:

As many of you know I’ve been working with large canvas prints of my photography. I just picked up a couple large pieces I had at Anzelinis frame shop in Moses Lake and I’m loving the results.

I’m afraid you’ll just have to avert your eyes from my knobby legs. Pretty scary I know, but what can I say. It’s summer.

The first, Doorway To Winter, is a forty six inch canvas. I’m working on a limited edition signature series of this along with others to sell in local galleries. The next is a fifty inch canvas from Jana & Darrens wedding. Heres a few photos the results. along with some edge details on the frames. Yep I know I look goofy and awkward. We just grabbed some snapshots so I could show them off. Enjoy… Gav

  • Canvas Wall Portraits

I wanted to make a quick post about my new Wall Portrait offerings. I’m pretty stoked about them. Like furniture for the wall, our Wall Portraits are all at least twenty four inches and their what you’ll see on the walls at the studio these days. If you look at classical portraits and art you begin to understand that small prints like eight by tens and eleven by fourteens just don’t make sense for the wall.

Every great image deserves to be hung as a high quality canvas. Here’s a photo of me with the latest studio samples. They look more amazing in person so feel free to stop by and get a closeup. We’re offering them to current as well past clients so if you want a timeless print on your wall get in touch… Gav

  • Cyrus Seim… Boy At Work:

    seim-kids-photo-1

I was at a local park the other day doing some experimentation with various types of light. Sondra and Cyrus came by to help and Cyrus really enjoyed working with the lights. I’ve been playing with this Sima LED video light as a small constant light source. Cyrus and he went right to work trying to put it on the stand.

I had to help him a bit in the end, but hey he’s only 15 mos. He’s takes such an interest in things and catches on so fast. I’ll be running to keep up with him soon. Here’s a few photos I took. I just cant resist photographing him. I have so many, but always want more… Gavin

  • Bridge Of Memories, 1st Place Icicle Prize 2009:

    seim-bridge

This is a shot I took last fall of the old bridge spanning the Wenatchee river near Leavenworth WA. On Saturday it won the Icicle Prize 1st place color and peoples choice award. It took home $2000 in prize money.

I’d like to give a big thanks to a great local photographer, Julie Waites, who told me about this contest. I’m told the judges were unanimous and I’m excited and humbled that is did do well.

This is an HDR image taken with my Canon 30D. Such a cool old bridge. Here’s some history about it. Prints can be found in my canvas store.

  • Paintball Freeze:

    paintball-action-seim-photo-1

The high ISO ability of the 5D MK II camera, not only means better low light shooting, but better daylight shooting as wll. We’ve started up some spring paintball out at my brothers house and spent a few minutes yesterday grabbing a few action shots using Nathan as a model. It still took a good number of frames to grab it at just the right moment to freeze the ball coming from the barrel, but at ISO 6400 1/8000 sec at f13 the MK2 nailed it.

I find myself becoming interested in other high speed possibilities. I’ve always been fascinated by it… Gav

It’s actually been awhile since I’ve entered competition and it’s time I started doing it. It’s alot of work to prepare, print and submit so it’s easy to let it slide. Here’s the four 16×20 prints I’ll be entering this Spring. Since I do lots of wedding work I decided to enter two, and then one senior and a nature shot (you can only enter four). Here I come world 😉
