  • Food Photography (a lot of work)

Recently I have taken up some food photography. My uncle is a part owner of Sea Galley in Yakima (Union Gap) WA. Though I shoot mainly weddings, and portraits, but I do have interest in food and commercial shooting, so when he needed his menu redone I jumped on it. I love technology, so on location at the restaurant I set up the lighting, and the laptop. Then we shot, and shot, and shot…

I never understood before now how much effort it is to get good food shots. I had my MBP laptop set up so that as soon as I took the shot it came up on the screen. This was a priceless feature, because we knew when we had it spot on.

I’m not complaining. I’m liking it, and intend to do more, and even start offering it more readily in my services. I like a challenge, weather a wedding, nature, or a plate of food.

I’ll post a few below, so see what you think. By the way I’m going there again this weekend to shoot drinks, and desserts… If your ever in Yakima, you must go to Sea Galley. The best food in town!

Here’s the shrimp cocktail. Yes it’s good, and I did get to eat it when I was done.

The Shrimp Skewers are UNREAL GOOD! But they were among the hardest to shoot

I’m not a huge salad guy, but let me tell you. This is one good salad (there’s also one topped off with fresh Dungeness crab) (Mouth watering yet???)

    Dessert shooting this weekend… 🙂
  • Another Amazing Wedding

So I had an incredible wedding a few weeks back. It went so good, and I’m so excited because it seems to be running this way. Nearly every wedding I shoot comes out more beautiful than the one before it. Really good editing takes a ton of time, but I get more efficient at it consistently.
I have the highlights slideshow online, so if you like you can check it out here.
Julia & Ky did so well, and had such a good time at their wedding!
    Here’s a few of my favorite shots…

I love these dress shots. There just give the total feel of getting ready. My Aunt Beth actually is the one who sayed I needed to get more of these, and she was right. The little girl in the middle was so fun and active. I got lots of good shots from her. And as always I love these color mixed with b+w shots.

Just as the sun was setting I rushed the Julia & Ky away from the party and stood then on the hill overlooking Moses Lake. I t payed off with some neat silhouette shots.

This one on the right is of Julia’s dad. He jumped right in & danced the night away. It works so well to document the real happenings by freezing those silly and fun moments.
I may try to post some more about this wedding soon. Right on Jules Ty & all your families… You did great.

  • New Blog, & Cool Senior Portraits

I decided I need a main blog to keep my customers, and everyone else up to date. I have some other blogs, but this will be my main one, and be linked right from my site.

Anyway I’ve had some great senior portraits in the past few weeks, and though they have presented challenges for me, it’s helped me forge my style, and ideas even more.
Though I shoot mainly weddings, I really like variety so I look forward to the senior jobs I do.

Here is a shot of Mim that I did in the studio, and then added some really neat effects using my Actions from Kevin Kubota, and Craig’s Actions, plus spending some time editing. I have to say I was really happy with the way it came out. Her and her friends were excited about it as well, so that was great.

A week later I had a senior shoot all the up in Spokane WA, that we shot at the Riverfront park.
Because of the lighting situations, among other things I did have to be a bit creative.
This shot below was taken as sort of a journalistic style, that I have been using on a lot of senior portraits lately. I’ve talked about these ideas on the Pro Photo Show lately as well, and it seems to really be working out. I just give them a small amount of direction, and then let then to it their way directing when I need to. In this case I told him to walk thru the park, and I went some distance ahead running along with my 70-200 2.8 for some cool shots.
I also added a radial blur to the edges for a fun effect.

Andy also plays guitar, and is in a band called the Gutterballs, so the guitar shots really suited his style, and the candid’s were even better.

Also check out these jumping shots. Andy wanted some action shots, and it took some timing, and experimentation but we got it right
