What a great looking family eh? And they did a great job. I just had the privilege of making a portrait of all forty two of them. I won’t say it was easy, but I enjoy a hearty challenge. The planning started well in advance, meeting with Mr & Mrs Chamberlain and then visiting their farm various times to layout and plan the portraits. I even chatted with a few of my mentor photo elders before photo day, discussing options and getting ideas. When the time came, I didn’t even have an assistant, but planning ahead made things come together almost perfectly.

I love a sunset portrait, but this is not a sunset and I still love it. Much of the family was coming from out of town for the weekend and due to schedules sunset simply didn’t happen. We planned for the light we expected to have and made it work using appropriate fill light in the foreground to balance the scene. After processing, the result was this beautiful portrait made round 9:30AM, followed by a few smaller ones to complement it.

I thrilled and thankful to God for this beautiful result. Mr & Mrs chamberlain were in today to make these final choices and I’ve started the final printing and framing process, preparing these for their walls. The primary portrait will be made as one of my sixty inch Heirloom Canvas pieces, and next two will be on thirty six inch canvas. I’m eager (as I’m sure they are) to get these on the wall. I just posted Jayme & Brandon’s awesome wedding album. This is the Fusion slideshow. Put simply, it’s the highlights of their wedding photos set to music. The twist is that is has little video clips mixed in, bringing it to life. I’m not a wedding videographer. But I love what I was able to do to this story by adding a little bit of video. Jayme & Brandon actually didn’t know I was making this, as it was a new offering for me. I just silently grabbed clips throughout the day, made this up, then surprised them when they came to the studio. We actually made a video of their reaction. Needless to say this is something I’m offering couples going forward. While it does not take away from a beautiful album or a wall portrait, it’s a great way to share the highlights of your day of a very memorable way… Gav

Jayme, Brandon and their family were great. This is one of those weddings that was a lot of work, but a real pleasure. From early morning to late evening and even a trash the dress session the following week. Jayme & Brandon were into it and that makes amazing things happen. This was one of those projects that makes me love my job because the couple was so in It seemed we were all over the Wenatchee Valley taking photos (including the crazy cool wakeboard images on the river). The ceremony was at Highlander Golf Club, which was incredible. For a light fanatic like myself, it’s hard to beat the sweeping sunset view of the valley that we had from Highlander during the ceremony and reception. Jayme & Brandon have 68 pages of memories in their album to go along with a stunning 36in canvas of the image above. I also surprised them with my new Fusion slideshow. I won’t explain it here, but if you know Jayme & Brandon well, you’ve probably already heard about it. You can see it as well the complete proof gallery via the links above. What kid doesn’t love a holiday where exploding things is OK. I guess I’m still a kid in that sense, because 4th of July is still a favorite of mine. The independence of our nation celebrated by family, fireworks and banners. Once every few years my family pitches in and we have a big get together with a great DIY fireworks show. This was one not one of those years however, so I decided to help out on the crew of Orion Pyrotechnics for a show they were doing in Ephrata. It was neat to work on a professional show, and something that’s been on my todo list.

Orion did fireworks as well as explosives for the stunts at this even and I manged to grab some cool photos along the way. I’ve also been toying with HD video lately so I also captured some of the of the action with motion. It was a fun day and I’m considering doing more and perhaps even getting my pyrotechnics license.  Check it out… Gav

Last Saturday I was photographer in a beautiful wedding over at Hidden Meadow, for Kelly & Steele (the couple I posted engagement photos of a few weeks back). Hidden meadow is simple but beautifully done. It’s like a giant garden oasis in the middle of the Moses Lake area dessert and made a stunning backdrop for Kelly & Steele to say their vows and enjoy family & friends. Kelly and Steel are on their honeymoon now and when they get back we’ll wrap up their album and get a proof gallery of the whole photo collection. by Gavin Seim: Midnight Seattle is an HDR photo I made of the Seattle Skyline. It went to the PPA International Print Competition this year and was awarded a Loan Collection merit. For those not familiar with PPA, this is a good thing. I’m told it will be be published in the international Loan collection book as well showing at Imaging USA 2011. This is the first year I’ve entered at nationals. I must confess, making the Loan Collection was really on my wish list. While this is the only of my four prints that merited, I’m still a happy, thankful camper. For those interested in HDR, check out my up coming HDR workshop on the Seim Effects site.
